Newark City Hall Will Be Closed on Election Day, but Trash and Recycling Pickup Will Run as Usual
City Hall and most non-emergency Newark municipal services will be suspended on Tuesday, Nov. 3, for Election Day, the city said, while police, fire and other uniformed emergency services are unaffected and trash and recycling will still be picked up.

Mayor Ras J. Baraka reminded residents that City Hall will be closed and most non-emergency Newark municipal services will be suspended on Tuesday, Nov. 3, in observance of Election Day, in a City of Newark press release posted Oct. 30 and read in full by this desk on the city's official news page. Police, fire and other uniformed emergency services will be unaffected.
Trash and recycling will be picked up on Tuesday as usual, the city said, and should be placed on the curb the night before, between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Department of Public Works service centers will be closed. The Department of Health and Community Wellness's inspection services and health clinic will not operate on Election Day, and the Bureau of Vital Statistics will be closed, so residents will not be able to apply for permits, birth certificates, name-change certificates or marriage licenses, or pay water or tax bills at City Hall. The department's medical director and its Division of Surveillance and Prevention remain on call for public health emergencies.
The Municipal Court will also be closed on Election Day, although a judge will be available for bail hearings for defendants in custody. Residents can pay parking and traffic tickets through njmcdirect.com using their summons number, including the prefix, and Newark's court code, 0714, the city said.
