Newark Traffic: Turnpike Crash Near Interchange 15E Cleared, Parkway Delays Through Bloomfield

A Saturday crash on the Turnpike's Western Spur north of Interchange 15E in Newark was reported cleared with all lanes open, while Garden State Parkway delays ran through Bloomfield — and the I-280 tractor-trailer crash from Wednesday remains the week's cautionary tale.

Newark Traffic: Turnpike Crash Near Interchange 15E Cleared, Parkway Delays Through Bloomfield (Newark Brick City News)

A crash on the New Jersey Turnpike Western Spur northbound, north of Interchange 15E for U.S. 1&9 in Newark, was reported at about 1 p.m. Saturday with all lanes open, according to the 511NJ active-events feed read this cycle. The feed also listed delays on the Garden State Parkway northbound from south of Exit 149 in Bloomfield toward Exit 153A, in the Essex County corridor north of Newark.

The feed carried a Saturday event notice for the Prudential Center in Newark — Disney On Ice presents Spotlight Magic — a reminder for drivers heading downtown that arena traffic will mix with Halloween traffic through the evening.

Earlier this week, a tractor-trailer struck a concrete median barrier on Interstate 280 in Newark on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 28, just before 3 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 13.1, west of Exit 13 for Orange Street and First Street, according to published reporting on the crash. Hazmat crews responded to a reported fuel leak, three eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes were closed during the response reported by 511NJ, and several people were taken to hospitals; the cause of the crash and the extent of injuries were not confirmed in the reporting read this cycle.

No fatal or road-closing incident in Newark or Essex County was listed as active in the 511NJ feed at the time it was read this cycle. Drivers heading to Halloween events downtown Saturday evening should still expect the usual arena and Broad Street congestion.
