Democrats Lead New Jersey's Early Vote by More Than 305,000 Ballots, With Essex County Up 37,312 to 4,606
An analysis of ballots cast through the final stretch before Election Day shows registered Democrats accounting for 60.5% of New Jersey's early vote — and in Essex County, 37,312 Democratic ballots to 4,606 Republican ones.

Registered Democrats have built an early-voting lead of more than 305,000 ballots in New Jersey, according to an analysis by Umichvoter reported by the New Jersey Globe. Of the 795,717 ballots already cast at the time of the analysis, Democrats accounted for 60.5% and Republicans for 22.2%, with the Democratic advantage nearly 87,000 votes larger than at the same point in 2025.
In Essex County, the analysis recorded 37,312 ballots cast by registered Democrats and 4,606 by registered Republicans, a 66.6-point Democratic advantage. In the 10th Congressional District, represented by Rep. LaMonica McIver of Newark, Democrats cast 29,475 ballots to 3,255 for Republicans. Statewide, Democrats cast 327,112 mail-in ballots to Republicans' 94,814, and led in-person early voting 154,593 to 81,785.
The figures reflect voters' party registration, not which candidates they supported, and the Globe noted they do not necessarily predict Tuesday's outcome; Republicans have traditionally relied more heavily on Election Day voting. In-person early voting in New Jersey ends Sunday, Nov. 1, Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and mail-in ballots postmarked by 8 p.m. that day can be counted if received by Nov. 9.
