NJIT's Largest First-Year Class Ever: More Than 1,900 Students Joined the Newark Campus This Fall
The New Jersey Institute of Technology opened its fall semester with more than 1,900 incoming students — the biggest first-year class in the university's history — as national rankings continue to single out the Newark school for value and career outcomes.

Newark's New Jersey Institute of Technology opened the fall 2026 semester with its largest first-year class ever, according to NJIT News reporting summarized by Community News. More than 1,900 incoming students joined the university, surpassing all previous first-year enrollment figures in the institution's history. The milestone comes as NJIT holds a total undergraduate population of around 12,266 students, according to Niche's college profile data cited in the report.
Residence hall check-ins began Aug. 26 and 27, with students settling into Martinson Residence Hall, which houses Albert Dorman Honors College students, along with Redwood and Cypress halls, the report said. The incoming class formally convened Sept. 2 at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium for Convocation, followed by an Involvement Fair where student organizations — from academic and professional associations to cultural, service and recreational groups — tabled for new members.
The record class arrives as the university draws significant national recognition for graduate outcomes, the report said: TIME rated NJIT the top public university in New Jersey and 38th among public universities nationally, the Wall Street Journal/College Pulse ranked it first among New Jersey public universities on both value and alumni salaries, and the Princeton Review listed it among the nation's top 10 public universities for career placement.
