Election Day in the 2026 general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and polls in Newark and across Essex County will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to the Essex County Clerk's 2026 voting guide and the New Jersey Division of Elections dates reported in county voter guides. Voters who are in line before 8 p.m. will still be allowed to vote after the polls close, NorthJersey.com reported in its Election Day guide.

Early in-person voting, which has run since Oct. 24 at 11 Essex County sites, ends Sunday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m. On Election Day itself, voters cast ballots at their assigned polling places; the state Division of Elections polling-place search and the sample ballot mailed to each voter identify the correct location.

Voters using mail ballots face the final deadlines of the cycle. The deadline to apply for a mail ballot by mail passed on Oct. 27, but a voter can still apply in person at the Essex County Clerk's office until 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. A completed mail ballot must be postmarked by 8 p.m. on Election Day and received by the county Board of Elections by Nov. 9 to count, or it can be placed in a secure county drop box or delivered to the Board of Elections by 8 p.m. on Election Day. A mail ballot cannot be returned at an early voting site or at an Election Day polling place.

New Jersey voters are choosing their representatives in Congress along with county and local offices. County guides advise voters to review their sample ballots before Tuesday to confirm their congressional district and the county, municipal and school contests on their ballots.
