Health Insurance Open Enrollment Opens Sunday in New Jersey as 2027 Premiums Rise an Average of 19.8%
Newark residents who buy their own coverage can enroll for 2027 through GetCoveredNJ from Nov. 1 through Jan. 31, with state figures showing double-digit average increases at all five individual-market insurers before financial assistance.

Open enrollment for 2027 health coverage in New Jersey opens Sunday, Nov. 1, and runs through Jan. 31, 2027, through Get Covered New Jersey, the state's official health insurance marketplace, according to the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance.
Shoppers will see higher sticker prices this year. The department's final rate figures, released Oct. 15, show individual-market premiums rising by a weighted average of 19.8% for 2027 before financial assistance, with carrier averages ranging from 15.3% at Horizon and 17.0% at AmeriHealth to 20.8% at Ambetter from WellCare of New Jersey, 29.3% at Oscar and 35.7% at UnitedHealthcare.
Those percentages are averages for unsubsidized plans, not a prediction of any one household's bill. The department says many residents who buy through Get Covered New Jersey may still qualify for state subsidies and remaining federal financial assistance, which can reduce what they actually pay each month, and free enrollment help is available through the marketplace.
Residents who want coverage in place for the new year should select a plan by Dec. 31, according to the state's guidance, and coverage does not begin until the first premium is paid. Comparing deductibles, provider networks and prescription coverage alongside the monthly premium is the comparison the marketplace's own tools are built to show.
