Prudential's Two Newark Towers Hit the Market: 1.1 Million Square Feet at 751 Broad and 213 Washington
Prudential Financial has hired JLL to sell its Plaza Building at 751 Broad Street and its Washington Building at 213 Washington Street — a combined 1.147 million square feet — as the company consolidates its global headquarters at 655 Broad Street and stays in Newark.

Prudential Financial has tapped JLL to market two of its downtown Newark office buildings for sale — the Plaza Building at 751 Broad Street and the building at 213 Washington Street — with a combined 1.147 million square feet of office space, Real Estate NJ reported on Oct. 27 in its Prudential coverage read this cycle.
The marketing follows Prudential's Sept. 30 announcement that it would sell the two buildings and consolidate its Newark headquarters in the Tower Building at 655 Broad Street, supplemented by leased space elsewhere in the city, ROI-NJ reported. The company said Newark will remain its global headquarters, where it has been based since 1875, and that the transition is expected to occur over several years with no immediate changes for employees.
The Prudential Tower at 655 Broad Street opened in August 2015. It is a 20-story, 740,000-square-foot tower that houses about 3,000 workers, according to ROI-NJ. The Plaza Building at 751 Broad Street opened in 1960 on the site of the company's earlier headquarters, and the Washington Building at 213 Washington Street is a 21-story tower completed in 1942, according to the published reports.
What fills 1.1 million square feet of downtown office space — and who buys it — will shape Newark's central business district for years. No buyer or price has been announced, and Prudential has not tied the property plan to any specific job changes.
