Newark Traffic: Turnpike Inner Roadway Closure Lifts at 6 A.M. Monday, and Sunday Night's Feed Shows No New Newark Closure
Monday's commute starts clean around Newark: the Turnpike inner roadway southbound closure north of Interchange 14 is scheduled to end at 6 a.m., and the Sunday-night 511NJ feed lists no new fatal or road-closing incident inside Newark or Essex County.
Newark drivers heading out Monday morning start with the overnight work wrapping up: the New Jersey Turnpike inner roadway southbound closure from north of Interchange 14, in place Sunday night, is scheduled to lift at 6 a.m. Monday, according to the 511NJ reporting this station covered Sunday evening. The closure was the only full Newark-area roadway closure on the weekend feed.
The NJDOT 511NJ active-events feed read Sunday night showed its newest North Jersey items outside this station's coverage area — a crash and overturned vehicle on the Turnpike local lanes north of Exit 71 in the Englewood area and northbound delays approaching the George Washington Bridge — and no new crash, closure or fatal incident inside Newark or Essex County. Garden State Parkway and I-280 listings for the Newark area carried no new closure Sunday night.
With Election Day on Tuesday and polls open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., election-morning traffic will build around polling places and school zones rather than on the highways. Drivers should still check 511NJ before the Monday evening drive, when Turnpike volume toward the crossings typically builds; this desk will update the file if the feed changes.
