Newark Traffic: Turnpike Inner Roadway Southbound Is Closed From North of Interchange 14 Until 6 A.M.
The New Jersey Turnpike's Inner Roadway southbound is closed for roadwork from north of Interchange 14 (I-78/U.S. 1&9) in Newark to south of Interchange 12 (Carteret-Rahway) until 6 a.m. Monday, according to the NJDOT 511NJ feed — with separate Turnpike construction continuing south of Interchange 14 through Monday morning.

Drivers leaving Newark to the south overnight face a full closure on the New Jersey Turnpike's Inner Roadway. The NJDOT 511NJ active-events feed read by this desk on Sunday night listed roadwork on the Turnpike Inner Roadway southbound from north of Interchange 14 — I-78/U.S. 1&9 in Newark — to south of Interchange 12, Carteret-Rahway in Carteret, with all lanes closed until 6:00 a.m., in an item updated at 9:43 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 1.
The closure sits inside a longer work zone on the same roadway. A separate 511NJ construction item in the feed describes guard rail repairs, milling and line striping on the Turnpike Inner Roadway southbound between south of Interchange 14 in Newark and south of Interchange 9 (NJ 18) in East Brunswick Township, running from Sunday, Nov. 1 through Monday, Nov. 2, according to the feed. The Turnpike's Hudson County Extension westbound also carries continuous construction between west of Interchange 14C in Jersey City and east of Interchange 14A (NJ 440/Bayonne Bridge) through Monday at 5:00 a.m., the feed said.
For Monday, the feed also lists roadwork on U.S. 1&9 northbound near north of Newark Liberty International Airport in the early morning, from 4:30 to 6:00 a.m., as a moving operation in the local lane, and I-280 eastbound roadwork west of Exit 7 (Pleasant Valley Way) in West Orange Township on Monday night from 9 p.m. into Tuesday at 5 a.m., with at least one lane closed, according to 511NJ. Drivers on the Turnpike southbound through Newark overnight should use the outer roadway and allow extra time until the Inner Roadway reopens at 6 a.m.
